Immersion Kindergarten EFL Teacher

The Immersion Program is open to four and five year olds. The combined enrollment of both schools is around 128 children.  The immersion teacher will teach English to a kindergarten class of up to 16 children in a completely English environment. Outside of a 40 minute long Japanese class, the children are immersed in English.  The children learn through songs, chants, short poems, memory work, games, stories and some phonics and writing.    Our curriculum is cutting edge and one of a kind.  There is a translator/interpreter that helps the English teacher when it is needed.  Due to the classroom being entirely in English, the English teacher needs to be very sensitive to the needs of her students and also quite creative in communicating with them.

Qualifications

・Native English speaker
・Minimum of a four year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Elementary Education.
　 A TESOL background and/or some Japanese language are not necessary but would be helpful.
・Two or more years experience with teaching young children is preferred
・Honest, hard working, flexible and dedicated individual who has a warm and energetic personality.
・Should have a warm and friendly personality, able to communicate and care for small children who have
　 had virtually no English experience

Hours

Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Actual time with the children will be from 8:30-2:15 and the rest of your day will be filled with meetings and teaching preparation. There will be 5 or 6 weekends during the year where the school will have a special program for children and their families that you and your class will be a part of.

Annual Salary

Monthly Break-down:
220,000 yen + 50,000 yen (house subsidy) = 270,000 yen per month.
Amount will be determined after consideration of applicant’s qualifications and experience.  A bonus, based on job performance, will be given at the end of the contracted year.  This salary includes a 50,000 yen housing subsidy.  Health insurance with 70% coverage is optional, and MeySen will pay half of the salary based premiums.

Living Arrangements

A small one-room apartment with basic furnishings will be provided within walking distance from the school.

Travel Expenses & Vacations

Travel expenses to and from Japan, as well as a round-trip airplane ticket back home once a year for each additional year you stay will be paid for by the school.  Your vacations must be taken during periods when the children are in vacation.
