Kindergarten EFL Teacher

The kindergarten program is open to four and five year old children. The children at MeySen are in a homeroom with a Japanese teacher and have an English class once a day. The English teacher teaches four classes of approximately 17-21 kids. (Two hours with the 4 year olds and two hours with the 5 year olds.) The children learn through songs, chants, short poems, memory work, games, stories and some phonics and writing. Our curriculum is cutting edge and one of a kind. (We ask that new teachers come for training from the month of February so that they are prepared for their new job. The actual school year does not begin until April.)

Overall Qualifications and Experience Required

・Native English speaker
・Some Japanese language
・Previous experience working with children
・Honest, hard working, flexible and dedicated individual who has a warm and energetic personality.

Education Requirements

A two to four year degree in any subject is required. However, some Japanese language is also necessary in order to tend to the needs of the children. TESOL background and/or an Education background are preferred.

Hours

7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
Plus-Two Saturdays a month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well as programs throughout the year that require extra time.

Annual Salary

Monthly Break-down:
200,000 yen + 50,000 yen (housing subsidy) = 250,000 yen per month.
Amount will be determined after consideration of applicant’s qualifications and experience. This salary includes a 50,000 yen monthly housing subsidy. A bonus, based on job performance, will be given at the end of the contract. Health insurance with 70% coverage is optional, and MeySen will pay half of the salary based premiums.

Living Arrangements

A small one-room apartment with basic furnishings will be provided within walking distance from the school.

Travel Expenses & Vacations

Travel expenses to and from Japan, as well as a round-trip airplane ticket back home once a year for each additional year you stay will be paid for by the school. Your vacations must be taken during periods when the children are in vacation.
